Spencer Dinwiddie might head to Orlando after all, per Nets GM Sean Marks.

The resources the Brooklyn Nets have access to for their Orlando Bubble are dwindling by the day.

After we counted out Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving long ago, Brooklyn has seen Wilson Chandler opt out, and DeAndre Jordan and Spencer Dinwiddie contract COVID-19.

It was only natural that the team overwhelmed by rumors about Irving and Co. blowing up the team’s group chat and spiking the league-wide restart would remain front and center in the days to come. Including these two new cases, Brooklyn’s total case count during the outbreak is now six players deep, and the team’s agitating would leave you assuming Jordan and Dinwiddie would decide against making the trip.

But not so fast. On a conference call on Wednesday, Nets GM Sean Marks announced that Dinwiddie would be on the team’s travel party list, leaving the door open for him to head to Orlando.

Of course, “as long as he’s COVID negative” is a burdensome phrase.

Even as Dinwiddie begins to test negative, we’ve seen the disease drop lingering effects on its unwilling subjects over the course of the past few months. Sure, it’s possible that the Nets’ explosive offensive piece simply feels recovered in the weeks to come.

He also might battle breathing issues, lung capacity problems, and months of aftershock like Rudy Gobert, the NBA’s first test case (who has only lost his sense of smell, but…still).

Dinwiddie had big plans for the league’s restart, and had expressed interested in taking advantage of the NBA’s new jersey policy to make a political statement of his own.

However, much like everything else these days, it’s no longer up to Dinwiddie whether or not he returns to the court this year. That’s the virus’ call, and we’ll continue to monitor his recovery.

But the door is open.
