On Sunday, the Portland Trial Blazers would head to Brooklyn to take on the Nets in a matinee matchup at Barclays Center.

The Brooklyn Nets are finally back home. After a five game road trip, the Nets returned home for the first time in nearly two weeks to face off against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Nets would be without Jeremy Lin once again and would miss him as they face one of the league’s best point guards Damian Lillard, who was fourth in the league in scoring coming into today’s game.

As the game began, the Blazers seemed to have the momentum after very solid play from Portland’s backcourt of Lillard and McCollum. Lopez would start to heat up, as he would hit three-point shots and fadeaway’s in the post, and looked great for the Nets.

Trevor Booker also was a nice bright spot for the Brooklyn in the first quarter, getting some crafty moves to go as he went to work on Mason Plumlee and some of the other Portland big men. However, Portland proved to be more mighty in the first quarter, quietly sneaking their way to a 32-29 lead at the end of the first with sloppy but solid play on both ends.

Portland came out in the second quarter with much energy and at one point took an eight point lead. But it was the big men off the bench, Luis Scola and Justin Hamilton, who kept the Nets close. Hamilton would hit a nice corner three, and Scola would convert on a three-point play. After a much needed Portland timeout, the Blazers would start firing and hitting at a high percentage. They would open up a nine point lead with 6:09 left to play in first half. A 9-0 run by the Nets got them back into the game when things looked bleak, and cut the lead to just one point. That run would really power the Nets and give them some momentum, but it wasn’t enough to give them the lead as the Nets would head into the half down 70-64.

The third quarter began and Booker hit a three pointer to get things started for the Nets. The lead would only be three at that point, and the Nets looked to cut into that even more and take the lead but that wasn’t the case. The unlikely duo of Moe Harkless and Mason Plumlee punish Brooklyn and gave Portland a 10 point lead. From there, Portland never looked back, opening up a 19 point lead at one point. The Trail Blazers would lead 99-84 at the end of three.

In the fourth quarter, Portland looked unstoppable and it was more of the same of what we saw in the third quarter. Portland would cruise through the fourth quarter and get the big win over the Nets in Brooklyn, 129-109.

The Nets’ next game will be at home where they face off against the Boston Celtics. Hopefully Lin will be back by then, because the last two games have shown the Nets need him.
