Before the Brooklyn Nets face off against the Orlando Magic later on April 1, Adam Silver vetoed the infamous Kevin GarnettPaul Pierce trade nearly four years after it happened.

After going through much pain for the last three years from the aftermath of the infamous “Garnett-Pierce” trade, the Brooklyn Nets and their fans were sent into a frenzy. They were in great spirits on April 1 to find out that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver vetoed the very trade that occurred between the Nets and the Boston Celtics nearly four years ago.

“I felt that it would be fair for both sides if I made a move such as this one,” said Silver in the April 1 press conference. “Boston will be receiving one of the best players in their franchise’s history back… that’s correct, Jason Terry. Also, they’ll be getting back someone else who played for them–Paul Pierce. But I’m sure fans will be more excited to hear that Terry is returning back to Beantown once again.”

“I’m ecstatic,” said Celtics All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas. “Many people don’t realize he’s the real reason I chose to wear the number four upon my arrival to Boston when I was traded.”

When asked how he felt about Terry possibly taking his number four back, Thomas said, “If he wants it back, he can have it. I doubt fans will be upset about it. They can just buy a new jersey, can’t they? We’ll see, though.”

Silver also mentioned how the veto will work. “Well, the Celtics are in New York to play the Knicks tomorrow, so we told them to just drop James Young and Jaylen Brown off at the Barclays Center. That way, [Young and Brown] can play against the Orlando Magic later on tonight.”

“I’m excited to see what Jaylen could bring to the table,” Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson said. “I think he fits into the culture me and Sean (Marks) are trying to build here, and I think he and Caris (LeVert) have a lot in common and can help this team win a championship in the years to come.”

Atkinson also appeared to have no clue Young was even part of the trade. “Are you talking about Thaddeus, because I never got the opportunity to coach him? He seemed like a delightful player to have around. Is James his brother or something?”

Sean Marks was similarly asked about Young, and he did not seem to care much about the former 17th overall draft pick. “Oh yes, James, we sent him to Long Island,” he said. Many reporters attempted to correct Marks, reminding him that the Nets’ D-League team is playing in the Barclays Center until renovations at the Nassau Coliseum are finished. However, Marks replied, “Oh yes, I know they play at Barclays. What’s your point?”

Don’t expect to see James Young in a black-and-white uniform or even on the bench. It seems not even the league-worst Brooklyn Nets want him on their team.

Here’s the complete breakdown of the veto: the Boston Celtics will receive Paul Pierce, Jason Terry and D.J. White. The Brooklyn Nets will receive Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, Marshon Brooks and Kris Joseph back as well as Jaylen Brown and the rights to their own 2017 and 2018 draft picks. Oh, and of course, James Young. Here at Nothin’ But Nets, we’re not sure if D.J. White is even alive and if Keith Bogans will be returning to the Nets, as he was a part of the original trade, but Adam Silver did comment about Bogans.

“Oh yes, Keith… yeah I kind of forgot about him. Last I heard, he was drinking pina coladas in the Caribbean with Ice Cube talking about his return to Barclays Center… in the Big 3 league on June 25th!”

Now with the Nets getting the rights to their 2017 first round pick, many believe the Nets will target UCLA guard Lonzo Ball. Nothin’ But Nets had the opportunity to catch up with Lonzo’s father, Lavar Ball. “If I was commissioner, I would’ve made this trade years ago. If my son gets drafted by the Nets, he’ll be the greatest player in the franchise’s history. Who even played for them anyway… Dr J? Jason Kidd? Those are two players I can beat one-on-one, no problem.”

Now that the Nets have their draft picks back, they can finally rebuild properly. However, the longest-tenured Net wasn’t so sure about their chance at snagging the first overall draft pick. “Well, when we won 12 games in 2010, we didn’t even get the first pick, so what makes you think we’ll get it this time around?” said Nets center Brook Lopez. “I mean, we could’ve had John Wall, but who did we end up getting? Oh yeah, that’s right, Derrick Favors.”

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out for the Nets, but one thing is for sure. The Nets and their fans can finally rest easy after the last two seasons have consisted of nothing but heartbreak and turmoil.

Also, Happy April Fool’s Day, Nets fans ;).
