Game 1: Pistons at Nets – Wednesday, October 27, 7:00 p.m.

There’s no debating that this is one of the most anticipated NBA seasons in recent memory, with the formation of a few “superpowers” and some of the league’s young talent primed to make the leap to stardom. After months of conversation and speculation, the season tipped off last night, with the Celtics-Heat matchup drawing more viewers than any cable broadcast in NBA history.

Tonight, it’s the Nets’ turn to get things started, to turn the page and to begin a new era under the leadership of Mikhail Prokhorov, Billy King and Avery Johnson. New Jersey will play its first ever regular season game at Newark’s Prudential Center against the Detroit Pistons (7:00, YES). Unlike the Nets, the Pistons barely changed their roster heading into this season, but like their opponents tonight, they’re hoping to erase the memory of a disappointing 2009-10 campaign. In the lead-up to the game, I’ll be posting a piece previewing the season ahead. After tonight’s contest, I’ll be recapping our first official look at the 2010-11 New Jersey Nets.
