Sacramento Kings rookie DeMarcus Cousins, feeling slighted that he was drafted behind fellow big man Derrick Favors in June’s draft, promised he “go at [Favors’] neck” the first time he got a chance. He’ll get his first crack at Favors – and Brook Lopez – Friday night at the Prudential Center.
The Nets (1-0) are coming off a high-energy win in their season debut in which they came from 10 points down in the final six minutes to knock off the Detroit Pistons. In spite of all the new faces and perceived unfamiliarity with one another, the Nets showed chemistry, enthusiasm and a shared resilience in earning their first victory. The game against the Kings would appear to give the Nets a reasonable chance at being 2-0 heading into Halloween’s much-anticipated visit from the new-look Miami Heat.
Sacramento started its season on Wednesday night and also notched its first win, a 117-116 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The team was without sophomore star Tyreke Evans, who was serving a one-game suspension after pleading no contest to reckless driving in the offseason. Carl Landry and Francisco Garcia led the Kings with 22 points apiece.
Evans will make his season debut tonight, but Kings center Samuel Dalembert, who also missed his team’s opener, is questionable for tonight’s contest. Troy Murphy is still out for the Nets, who used a combination of Joe Smith, Kris Humphries and Favors at the 4-spot in his absence.
