Devin Harris wins Thurman Munson Award for charitable efforts

Devin Harris, one of the key figures in the Nets organization, has also become an important contributor to his surrounding community.

In recognition of his achievements in service, Harris has been chosen as this year’s recipient of the Thurman Munson Award. The honor is given annually by Munson’s widow, Diana, to commend athletes who demonstrate extraordinary work in charitable endeavors, as Thurman did in his work to aid mentally-challenged children before his passing. Harris will receive the award on February 1, joining a prestigious list of past honorees that includes Willis Reed, Walt “Clyde” Frazier, Muhammad Ali, Yogi Berra and Mariano Rivera.

Harris’ organization, 34 Ways to Assist, has done extensive work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help sick children. Recently, Harris helped put together a $75,000 donation by the Nets’ organization to the Eric LeGrand Believe Fund, set up in honor of the currently-paralyzed Rutgers football player.
