Nets vs. Golden State Warriors Live Notes

Tonight, the Nets take on the Golden State Warriors at the Oracle Arena. I will post my thoughts here after each quarter.

First quarter

  • The Nets game is about to start and the YES Network is only showing the 8th inning of a blowout spring training game between the Yankees and Phillies. I really hope YES changes its habits next season and blacks out the Nets less often because the Brooklyn Nets should be a popular team.
  • Half the Warriors active roster are rookies. There are six of them. This is overwhelming.
  • Way too many turnovers already. MarShon Brooks has 3 turnovers only 4 minutes into the game.
  • It’s halfway through the first quarter and the YES Network is only now starting to show the Nets game.
  • Gerald Wallace has found his range. He has 2 three pointers in one quarter.
  • Jeremy Tyler rejected by Johan Petro!!
  • With over 4 minutes left in the first quarter, Warriors rookie sensation Klay Thompson has picked up his third foul.
  • Still time left in the quarter and David Lee has 14 points. He is beating the Nets with midrange jump shots and well-polished post moves.
  • Petro with a French Flush!!
  • At the end of the first quarter, Deron Williams has scored a goose egg. 0 points and 5 assists.
  • Nets trail 26-22.

Second quarter

  • It’s Mickell Gladness vs. Dennis Horner time. A D-League reunion. Gladness posterizes Gerald Wallace.
  • 5 minutes into the second quarter, Deron Williams has finally scored his first point. He is definitely not putting his all into this game. There is no one on the Warriors who can guard him.
  • The Warriors now lead by 14. Yikes.
  • Against the worst defense in the NBA, the Nets are on pace to get only 8 points in the second quarter.
  • It’s over halfway through the quarter and the Nets have just scored their first field goal of the second stanza.
  • Petro just passed the ball to absolutely no one.
  • The Warriors have 24 points in the paint. The Nets only have 8 in the paint.
  • The sloppiest, most comical ending to the second quarter I have seen in a while. So many missed lay-ups.
  • DeShawn Stevenson has somehow made 2 three pointers tonight. How are they going in?
  • DeShawn Stevenson stole the ball at halfcourt and promptly floated it to nowhere in particular. It somehow turned into points.
  • At the half, Golden State leads by 9. It’s 51-42

Halftime statistics

  • For the Nets, Gerald Wallace leads the team in both points and rebounds: 10 and 8 for “Crash.” Deron Williams has 9 assists but only 2 points on 0-7 shooting. As a team, the Nets have committed 10 turnovers already and have shot 35% from the field.
  • For the Warriors, David Lee has 22 points and Charles Jenkins (who?) has 8 assists. As a team, the Warriors are shooting 50% from the field.

Third quarter

  • Oh my god. I’m sorry, but Coach Avery should get himself ejected. Jeremy Tyler has scored 4 times this quarter. More importantly, nobody on the Nets is running back in transition and the Warriors have scored on the most inexcusable fast-breaks.
  • The Nets are not putting any effort into this game.
  • “You cannot play at this level without passion for the game.” ~ Mike Fratello. The Nets have not demonstrated any passion for basketball this quarter.
  • It’s an 18 point game. Jeremy Tyler has scored again. Unacceptable.
  • The Nets are starting to put a little more effort into this game, but it is too late and Klay Thompson is knocking down three pointers at will.
  • Gerald Wallace has consistently played hard tonight while about everyone else on the team has not.
  • The Nets somehow cut the lead to 11, but Sundiata Gaines cannot contain Charles Jenkins.
  • End of the quarter, it’s 84-70 Warriors.

Fourth quarter

  • With only 10 minutes left in the game, all-star Deron Williams has scored his first field goal. Not good.
  • Petro just picked up his fifth foul and has been benched. The Nets have no center at all in the game now. They’re tallest player is Kris Humphries, an undersized power forward.
  • Wow, what a dunk by Gerald Green!
  • It’s a 7-0 run for the Nets. They now trail by 7. We have a game!
  • Wow!! OMG. The Nets came back from a 19 point deficit to WIN 102-100!! Jonah will have the recap shortly and I will post some quotes. The Warriors disappointed their sell out crowd.
