Preview: Brooklyn Nets vs. Chicago Bulls

Tonight, the Brooklyn Nets will travel to Chicago to play a nationally televised game. It will be the last game for the Nets before the All-Star break. This is an important game for Brooklyn because they are just one and a half games below the Bulls in the Eastern Conference standings. Brooklyn is now sitting in seventh place and Chicago is fourth in the East. Of course, Chicago is without Derrick Rose because he had a season ending injury; however, Chicago is still a good team and they have continued to win a lot of games. Of course, Chicago eliminated Brooklyn from the playoffs last season and the Nets will be looking for a measure of revenge against Joakim Noah, Jimmy Butler, and Taj Gibson. Carlos Boozer did not play in Chicago’s last game against the Hawks because of a calf injury.
The last time these two teams played against each other was on Christmas in Brooklyn. The Bulls won that game 95-78 and it was an embarrassing game for the Nets. Brooklyn did not do anything right in that game – they had only 11 assists and Pierce, Garnett, and Blatche played very poorly.
The Nets won yesterday against the Charlotte Bobcats, 105-89, behind a very good third quarter. On Tuesday, the Bulls won 100-85 against the Hawks and Joakim Noah registered a triple double with 19 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists. Gibson also had a good game with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Player Match-ups
Deron Williams vs. Kirk Hinrich. Advantage: Williams
This will be a battle between two of the most injury prone point guards in the league. Hinrich is not the same player he once was and the same is true for Williams. Williams should have a better game than Hinrich.
Joe Johnson vs. Jimmy Butler. Advantage: Johnson
Butler is a good player and Johnson has not played well recently. However, Butler is not going to the All Star Game and Johnson is. I do not expect Johnson to play that much better than Butler tonight.
Paul Pierce vs. Mike Dunleavy. Advantage: Pierce
Pierce had an excellent game last night with 25 points scored in efficient fashion. He might not play as well tonight – he might be tired because he played yesterday and also, the Bulls play good defense. Dunleavy is a good three point shooter and can score efficiently coming off screens.
Taj Gibson and Joakim Noah vs. Kevin Garnett and Andray Blatche. Advantage: Gibson and Noah
It is worth noting here that Boozer might play tonight despite his calf injury. It will be very important for the Nets to prevent Gibson and Noah from getting on the offensive glass and giving the Bulls second chances to score. The Nets will also need to find a way to score close to the basket despite Gibson’s and Noah’s good interior defense. If the Nets can limit Gibson’s and Noah’s impact, they should win tonight.
My prediction: Nets win 88-82. We will be watching and make a halftime podcast. Go Nets!
