Spurs Togetherness Too Much For Inconsistent Nets

The Nets have not beaten the Spurs in San Antonio since 2002 and that losing streak continues on Saturday night as the Spurs held off Brooklyn by a final score of 99-to-87. The Nets seemed tired and uninterested at times and when you’re going up against the defending NBA champions you won’t stand a chance with that attitude.

There were numerous Spurs players that could have received this honor but Tony Parker overall had the biggest impact on the game. Parker was able to penetrate to the rim whenever he wanted to and that forced the Nets to double team him which left open three point shooters ready to fire. Parker shot 50% from the field and he was perfect from the line so overall it was an efficient night for Parker.

Goat of the Game: Bojan Bogdanovic(2 points 0-of-7 from the field)

Bojan Bogdanovic has been lethal and efficient when the Nets have played at home in Barclays Center, but on the road Bogdanovic has looked rattled. Bogdanovic continued his road woes tonight not connecting on a field goal attempt for the second straight night and to make it worse he was 0-for-5 from behind the three point line. Bogdanovic will be crucial to the Nets success this season and the Nets will need him to contribute more effectively on the road.

Unsung Hero: Tim Duncan(7 points 10 rebounds 7 assists 3 steals 4 blocks)

Tim Duncan did it all tonight for the Spurs and the big fundamental was on quadruple double watch at halftime. Duncan is 38 years old, but he is still an elite player in this league and he performs at a high level it seems every single night. Duncan is expected to decline every season by critics, but each season Duncan continues to shine for the Spurs.

Statistical Outlook

For the Nets, Deron Williams led the way with 24 points and seven assists while Mirza Teletovic stepped up in the absence of Kevin Garnett putting up 22 points and 8 rebounds. For the Spurs, Kawhi Leonard had 21 points and 9 rebounds while Danny Green had 21 points off of the bench.

Game Notes

Kevin Garnett missed his first game of the season due to rest.

Brook Lopez had only 6 points, 4 rebounds and was benched for the entire fourth quarter.

Markel Brown scored his first NBA bucket which was a three with under one minute left in the fourth quarter.
