Nets Regather Themselves In OT And Beat Spurs

The Brooklyn Nets were expected by most to get dismantled by the reigning NBA champions the San Antonio Spurs, but Mirza Teletovic and company had other ideas. The Nets grabbed a 14 point lead over the Spurs within five minutes left in the fourth quarter, but Gregg Popovich’s group battled back and forced overtime thanks to a cold blooded three by Danny Green with three seconds remaining. At that point it is often hard for teams to regroup and play well after blowing such a lead, but the Nets continued to fight and although it was not easy Lionel Hollins’ bunch has won their second game in a row and their first against a team over .500 all season. The Spurs came into the night riding an eight game winning streak and the Nets changed that giving them a season split on their series against the Spurs.

Kevin Garnett did not play in this game due to rest and in his absence Mirza Teletovic was huge for Brooklyn. Teletovic had a double-double at halftime and he finished the game with 26 points and 15 rebounds. After the game, Teletovic acknowledged that the Spurs run a euro style type of system and Teletovic is used to that which makes him feel comfortable whenever he faces the Spurs. Teletovic caused havoc all night for the Spurs and his five three pointers were huge for the Nets in a ginormous win against the defending champions.

Play of the Game: Brook Lopez off the Window(Did he call bank?)

With his team up by one needing some insurance Brook Lopez took a wide open jumper from the top of the key and in his best game of the season, Lopez hit the shot off the backboard and in. It was that kind of a night for Lopez who finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds on the night. Enough talking about the shot, watch it here for yourself and tell us in the comments if you think Lopez called glass on this big time bucket.

The Nets are now 8-and-9 on the season while the Spurs are 13-and-5. The Nets next game is at home on Friday against the Atlanta Hawks and the Spurs next contest is on Friday against the Grizzlies in Memphis. This game can serve as a huge building block for a Nets team that appears to be having fun once again on the court. It’s early in the season, but this win has the Nets feeling good about themselves.
