After beating the San Antonio Spurs Gregg Popovich praised the Nets stating that they’re going to be a ‘monster.’ At that point Nets fans were ecstatic and Brooklyn had all of the confidence in the world. Here we are exactly a week after that win against the Spurs and the Nets are in a state of disarray, searching for answers and it’s very likely that the core of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez can be broken up sooner rather than later. The Nets are 8-and-12 on the season and have now lost three games in a row.

The news broke at halftime of the Nets loss to the Bulls on Wednesday that Andrei Kirlenko was traded to the 76ers and the Nets also gave up a 2020 second round pick in the process. The Nets acquired 23 year old forward Brandon Davies in the deal and when everything is official the Nets will no longer have the NBA’s biggest payroll and the Knicks will take over that title. Kevin Garnett was asked about Kirilenko being traded and Garnett replied “When it rains it pours.” Garnett is putting together a great season so far and it’s a shame that his hard work isn’t helping the Nets get into the win column.
Just as the injury bug plagued the Nets they all of a sudden struggled from the three point line and forgot that there are 48 minutes in a basketball game. The Nets were tied at halftime verse the Bulls on Wednesday and ended up losing by 25 and on Monday verse the Cavaliers, the Nets were down by one at the half and ended up losing by 29 points. Everything seems to be going wrong for the Nets at this moment and with trade talk starting to be discussed in the locker room that only makes the situation a tougher one for the players to deal with.
Nets coach Lionel Hollins is trying to remain positive as he was laughing and joking around with reporters after the game, but if things don’t change soon this can be a completely different looking Nets team when January rolls around. The Nets are expected to sign a free agent wing player very shortly and also Jorge Gutierrez is expected to be included in the deal also which would send him out of Brooklyn opening up a roster spot. The Nets are currently going through a nightmarish stretch and it will be interesting to see what happens as far as trades are concerned as the year goes along.
