Willie Reed – Power Forward

Former Brooklyn Nets Center Willie Reed will remain teammates with Ellington, as Reed inked a deal with the Miami Heat as well.

The 26 year-old big man from Saint Louis University only has a year of NBA experience under his belt, but the Heat have enough familiarity with Reed that they felt comfortable signing him. Reed was on Miami’s Summer League team in 2015, and it actually seemed like he could make the team, but Brooklyn swooped in and signed Reed away from Miami.

Reed played in 39 games for the Nets, starting two at the four spot. He averaged 4.7 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in 10.9 minutes per game. His averages per 36 minutes, which may be indicative of what he could do with more of an opportunity, were 15.4 points, 2.5 blocks, and 10.3 rebounds.

Reed returns to Miami, where he could serve as a backup to Hassan Whiteside. Reed’s deal is a one-year deal for the veteran minimum, with a player option for the 2017-18 season.
