Jerelle Benimon, in my eyes, was the most impressive non-roster player to play for the Summer Nets. At 6’8, 240 pounds, it’s not quite clear what position Benimon plays, but his overall play was noteworthy.

Benimon saw quite a bit of time at center for the Nets, often playing with the four other starters. Despite his lack of height, he showed the ability to bang with the big boys down low. He doesn’t possess good verticality, but there were times where he got rebounds over players bigger than him, simply because he outworked them. He may not contain the prototypical height and size of an NBA big, but he certainly has the motor and fight in him to be one.

He showed the ability to finish around the rim and through contact. Benimon shot 57% from the field in the Summer, as well as showing off range out to the three point line, where he made both of his attempts.

Benimon lacks the size and athleticism to be an NBA big, but given his pure skill, effort on the boards and fight on the court, he played well enough to earn himself at least a training camp invite.
