The Nets will not make the playoffs this year. Team chemistry still has to be developed and Atkinson will need to experiment with a lot of lineups to find what works. However, it is very possible that the Nets will have a much better second half to the season once all the players find their role. The talent of the Nets is just not high enough to keep them competitive in the early part of the season.

Atkinson was a gamble for the Nets. Nevertheless, his resume makes him a great risk and he will most likely be with the Nets for many years to come. General manager Sean Marks is trying to lay down a foundation in Brooklyn, and he felt Atkinson was a good building block.
