The Brooklyn Nets played the second game of their West road trip against the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center. With the Nets being undermanned, how would they stack up against the NBA’s best team?

The Brooklyn Nets paid a visit to the NBA’s best team tonight, the Los Angeles Clippers in a late night showdown. The Nets would be without a number of players, including Brook Lopez who would rest so he can play tomorrow night against the Los Angeles Lakers. With the Nets very much undermanned, how would they fare against the Clippers, who hold the NBA and Western Conference’s best record.

Well, to start off the game Rondae Hollis-Jefferson put the Nets up 2-0 and from there it would already go downhill for Brooklyn. Los Angeles would jump out to a demanding 26-5 lead, and there was still 4:57 to go in the first. Brooklyn tried to get back into the game but whatever they would do wouldn’t fall or the Clippers would just flat out match. For only the second time this season, Brooklyn would look completely overmatched at the end of a first quarter. At the end of the first quarter of play, the Nets would find themselves down 39-14.

The Clippers would continue their dominance and roll into the second quarter with the same dominant mentality that they had possessed throughout the whole first quarter. However, the once 29 point lead would begin to evaporate as the great play from Yogi Ferrell and Bojan Bogdanovic helped to put a dent into the Clippers lead. The Nets would begin to build some momentum and look to be making things a bit more respectable. That was not the story for the rest of the second quarter however. The Nets would begin to slow down and the Clippers would extend that lead once again. At the end of two, the Nets would still outscore the clippers, but only by one point. With the first half in the books, the Clippers held a 71-47 lead.

More from Nothin' But Nets

The third quarter began with a Hollis-Jefferson rainbow jumper that cut the Clipper lead to 22 points. But once again, the Nets wouldn’t be able to hang around with the Clippers and would continue their woes. The Nets looked lost out on the floor, and the Clippers would just continue their dominance throughout the third, taking advantage of an undermanned Brooklyn Nets team. The Nets would lose control completely and the Clippers took advantage. The Clippers maintained control, and found themselves with a 99-65 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was much of the same as the Clippers held a firm lead and the Nets continued their struggles. The Clippers found themselves cruising to an easy victory as the Nets would fall to 4-6. Without Jeremy Lin and given the fact they were predicted to win 20 games by many at the beginning of the season, it really isn’t all that bad. The Nets will go up tomorrow night against the Lakers and will most likely play a close contest with both Lopez and Isaiah Whitehead getting back into the action.
