How did you become interested in NBA basketball?
When my older brother first got an Xbox 360 and NBA 2K6, I was jealous that I wasn’t allowed to play, but it was primarily because I had no true knowledge (at age six) of basketball back then. I was always fascinated by the Nets and their trio of Kidd, Jefferson, and Carter. What truly got me into deeply analyzing basketball was probably the 2007-08 Celtics run, and I remember watching the entire playoffs series that year and falling in love with the game.
If you’re pursuing sports journalism as a career, when did you realize this was what you wanted to do? If not, what is your career goal, and what drives you to cover sports?
I’m interested in a career revolving around social entrepreneurship and public service. In college, I hope to study business or economics with a quantitative focus, and I want to take on a second major of psychology or cognitive science (depends on the school). My goal is to understand people and analyze how human behavior affects us in both the short and long run. I’m currently a high school senior, so nothing is really set in stone for me yet. Afterwards, I’ll approach college with an open mindset and pursue a breadth of opportunities.
