In a shorthanded showdown, the Brooklyn Nets took on the Indiana Pacers in Indiana on Friday night. Brooklyn was without Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, while the Pacers were without their star, Paul George.

The Brooklyn Nets were without Rondae Hollis-Jefferson after he was injured against the Celtics, and Indiana was missing Paul George, as well as C.J. Miles. The Nets started a bit slow, missing their first four shots. However, Brooklyn went on an 11-0 run just four minutes into the game to take a 13-6 lead.

Midway through the first quarter, Brooklyn’s offense was humming. The Nets held a 20-14 lead at the six-minute mark. At the 4:43 mark of the first quarter, former Indiana Hoosiers guard Yogi Ferrell entered the game for the Nets. Ferrell has been one of the players Brooklyn has relied on in Jeremy Lin‘s absence.

As the Nets began to turn the ball over, their offensive unsurprisingly started to stagnate. In the final six minutes of the first quarter, the Nets scored just three points. At the end of the first quarter the Pacers held a 28-23 lead after closing the quarter on a 14-3 run.

More from Nothin' But Nets

Indiana opened up their lead to start the second quarter, taking a 35-25 lead. The Nets offense had gone cold, at one point going 1-of-10 as a unit before Bojan Bogdanovic hit a two-point jumper. Ferrell would then follow with a nice sequence, as he got a steal on defense and then nailed a three-pointer in transition. Brooklyn then cut the lead to four when Ferrell got a layup over Myles Turner off the glass for two. However, thanks to Jeff Teague and Monta Ellis, Indiana promptly pushed the lead back to 10 after a timeout.

As a whole, the Nets’ offense struggled in the second quarter. To make matters worse, Brook Lopez picked up his third foul with two minutes remaining, and had to be sent to the bench. Brooklyn lacked rhythm in the second quarter as they were outscored 30-20. At halftime, Indiana led 58-43.

In the first half, Indiana was led by Glenn Robinson III, who scored 13 points in 19 minutes. Brook Lopez led the Nets with 9 points in 12 minutes in the first half. Turnovers have been a problem for much of the season, and the Nets turned the ball over 11 times in the first half.

Early in the third quarter, Indiana went on a 9-0 run, as the Pacers pushed their lead to 22. The Pacers played extremely confidently on offense, as they began the quarter 6-of-6 from the field. The Nets have made a habit of struggling in the third quarter this season, and Friday night was no different. Any semblance of rhythm that the Nets may have had earlier in the game was gone.

Brooklyn was outscored 34-22 in the third quarter, as Indiana led 92-65 heading to the fourth quarter.

With such a large lead, the Pacers had this game wrapped up. The Nets tried to make the score a bit more respectable in the fourth quarter, but the rout was on. The Nets used their starters briefly in the fourth quarter, but the majority of the final quarter consisted of garbage time.

The Nets struggled for the majority of the game, as Brooklyn looked overmatched on defense and out of sync on offense. Indiana defeated the Nets by a score of 118-97. Lopez led the Nets with 20 points, while Glenn Robinson III also put up 20 for the Pacers.
