Brooklyn Nets 2016: Year in Review
By Zach Cronin
Dec. 8, 2016 – Nets sign Spencer Dinwiddie
Desperate times call for desperate measures. After getting hit with their injury bug, the Nets were losing bodies in the backcourt rapidly. Marks took action and went to the league to pluck 6-foot-6 combo guard Spencer Dinwiddie. This isn’t a bad signing. But I doubt the team would’ve made this move if they weren’t in need of players.
Luckily, Dinwiddie was dominating the D-League, and he made it clear that he’d be able to contribute to Brooklyn. With his height and length, he could match up against either guard spot on defense and could also oversee all the action on offense.
It hasn’t all come together for him, and his playing time is very sporadic. What we have seen, though, are flashes of him being a solid player in the rotation, and he’s able to put up points in bunches if he attempts a decent amount of shots.
It’ll probably take some more time until he’s totally comfortable seeing consistent minutes in the league. Before spending this year with the Nets, he spent 34 and 12 games with the Detroit Pistons over the course of his first two seasons, and it’s safe to say he didn’t see much time.
