Feb. 18, 2016 – Nets hire Sean Marks as GM

I may or may not have done a cartwheel through my living room when I heard this. It’s not that Billy King was a bad GM, but he made some very questionable decisions. I know I slander him a lot for comedy, but it wasn’t just him. The entire front office has to be made responsible for what happened with those moves.

Sean Marks was a refreshing sign because he’s spent time with a great organization, the San Antonio Spurs. Moreover, he wanted to rebuild. And that was really the only choice he had. He hasn’t forced anything, and all the signings that we talk about going forward are because of him. Marks has taken bets on unproven players and has also spent a lot of time perusing the D-League, trying to find as many hidden gems as he can.

The biggest move he facilitated thus far has to be trading Thaddeus Young for a first-round pick over the summer. Young was a great player for Brooklyn, but he just didn’t fit in with what the team was trying to do. Marks sent him to the Indiana Pacers, and, unfortunately, they’ve underachieved this year.

Indiana valued Thad highly enough and sent Marks the 20th overall pick, which turned into Caris LeVert. It doesn’t recoup for all the picks King forwarded to the Boston Celtics, but it’s a start.
