Spencer Dinwiddie

Spencer Dinwiddie was a D-League acquisition for Marks this season. Marks signed Dinwiddie to a partially guaranteed contract in December. Come early January, Brooklyn guaranteed his contract through the rest of the season.

Dinwiddie did not see too much time at the beginning of his Nets tenure, but that changed pretty quickly. Right around the time his contract became guaranteed, Dinwiddie has been seeing more minutes than Whitehead and has been starting over him for several weeks now.

Dinwiddie is averaging 6.5 points per game and 2.7 assists per game. Those numbers are lower than Whitehead’s, but Dinwiddie is more of a pure point guard. Dinwiddie knows how to command the floor from years of experience in college, with the Bulls, and in the D-League.

Dinwiddie is already seeing a bunch of minutes as evidenced by several 30+ minute games. Due to that, he does not need more playing time than he is already getting. Dinwiddie has shown flashes of why he should be the starter on this team, but it is clear he will not hold onto the starting job once Lin returns.

When Lin does return, though, Brooklyn cannot forget about either Dinwiddie or Whitehead as they both have shown they deserve minutes whether Lin is healthy or not.
