Takeaways

1. The second unit struggled

The Nets’ double-digit lead evaporated when the second unit checked in midway through the first quarter. The lineup of Trevor Booker, Joe Harris, Sean Kilpatrick, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Justin Hamilton looked disjointed. They were unable to find a clean look offensively and gave up several open threes on the defensive end. The only Nets bench player that played well was Isaiah Whitehead, who chipped in 14 points. Sometimes, all a second unit needs to do is maintain the lead. The Nets’ second unit may need a dose of energy. (K.J. McDaniels, anyone?)

2. Jeremy Lin provided a much-needed lift

In the pre-game report for the Nets’ matchup against the Kings, Jeremy Lin’s minutes were mentioned as a storyline to track throughout the game. Lin saw more minutes this game, playing 20 minutes and chipping in 17 points. In those minutes, Lin looked back to form, shooting 5-of-10 from the field and 2-of-3 from deep. He also contributed with five assists and two clutch free throws to seal the victory. It’s a positive development to see Lin back and playing well.

3. Brook Lopez, Nets LEGEND

Brook Lopez scored his 10,000th point last night, as mentioned previously. Lopez reached this milestone in fewer games than the other net in the 10K club, Buck Williams. In his nine seasons in the league, Lopez has been a consummate professional, with the Nets through both the best and worst of times. No matter where Lopez ends his career, his consistent play with the Nets should be looked upon fondly.
