Are you happy that the Nets opted to keep Brook Lopez?

Max Prinz (@FreshPrinz5): I went back and forth on whether or not the Nets should trade Lopez at least a dozen times. I solidly believed the Nets shouldn’t lower their asking price for him, and I’m glad they didn’t dump him for whatever they could get. Given that Nerlens Noel, a 23-year-old, didn’t even net a guaranteed first-rounder, it’s probably best that the Nets held onto Lopez.

Lopez is one of many offense-first centers across the league whose value is declining more and more. At this point, I think the Nets are better off keeping him and continuing to run the offense through him as their young players develop. He can be a force other Nets players can look up to. His attitude throughout his Nets’ tenure has been impeccable. That makes him worth more to the Nets than any other team. We’re a few years away, but If he finishes his career in Brooklyn, he deserves a massive standing ovation at his final game.

Charles Maniego (@ignisyon): Yes! I’m honestly really excited to see the Brook-Lin combo in action for what should be the rest of the season. A Lopez trade at the deadline may have been for way under his value. Just look at the trade for Nerlens Noel, where the Sixers (likely) received two second-round picks for a young, “modern” center. If Brook were to be traded, he should have more value in the offseason, when first-round picks are less valued.

Brandon Robinson (@ScoopB): Yes. My sources familiar with the Nets’ thinking clearly indicated that the Boogie Cousins trade made the Nets have second thoughts about what they were willing to give up. That said, If the Nets were to trade Brook Lopez, they should have done it years ago. The Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers were suitors, but ultimately, Brook is still a building block for the Nets.

MUST READ: Breaking Down the Nets’ Offense

Over the last few years of Nets basketball, we’ve seen Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Gerald Wallace, Devin Harris, and Joe Johnson come and go. Brook Lopez is still here, and he’s a center who is consistent. Before Jarrett Jack‘s injury last season, you saw Jack have solid chemistry with Lopez in the pick-and-roll. With Jeremy Lin back from injury in the second half of the season, the two should audition for what’s to come next season. A solid point guard and center tandem in New York City could attract folks to Atlantic Avenue faster than 2 Pennsylvania Plaza.

Jason Anderson (@Jay_A_Anderson): Yes, I think the Nets should build around Brook Lopez.
