On March 12th, the Brooklyn Nets will hold a night honoring the legacy of the Notorious B.I.G. as they host the New York Knicks.

The Brooklyn Nets announced via press release that they will celebrate the life of legendary Brooklyn rapper Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls, aka the Notorious B.I.G.  March 9th marks 20 years since the murder of the iconic New York emcee.

According to the press release, Biggie’s closest family and friends, including Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, his mother Voletta Wallace, and his children will be attendance. DJ Enuff will be performing a tribute set at halftime.

Biggie’s music, as well as music from artists he has inspired, will be played throughout the game. This, however, might come as no surprise, since clips of his music and other Brooklyn hip hop is often heard at Nets games.

"“Biggie’s music played a major role in positioning Brooklyn at the forefront of the music industry, and on Sunday we will celebrate his enduring legacy. There is no better place to honor him than at Barclays Center, Brooklyn’s biggest stage and the home of hip-hop,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment."

Whether it’s clips from his song “The What,” “Hypnotized,” or his voice saying “Brooklyn” as sampled by fellow Brooklyn emcee, Fabolous, it’s clear much of B.I.G.’s influence has already been felt by those who have attended games in his hometown. Not to mention, former Nets minority owner Sean Carter (Jay Z), has not only found great influence in the late “King of New York,” but was also known to be close friends with the fallen lyricist.

The estate of the late great Notorious B.I.G. will also involve the unveiling of Biggie’s official designer label, aptly titled Hypnotize. The new label, which includes limited edition shirts, hoodies, hats, and more, will debut with a special shop at the Barclays Center on game day (March 12).

The Nets will also be refurbishing Biggie’s old middle school, Queen of All Saints School in Brooklyn, for the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation.
