Takeaways

1) Comeback game for Dallas

The Mavericks were embarrassed on Friday night, losing to the Philadelphia 76ers by 42 points! Rick Carlisle and the rest of the Mavericks looked to bounce back from a disappointing loss against the Sixers. Dallas showed fire early, playing an aggressive zone scheme to clog up Nets’ drives. Brooklyn could not figure out how to stifle the Mavericks’ offense in the first half. The result was an 18-point deficit early. That desire for a win was also evident with the strong fourth quarter play of J.J. Barea and Harrison Barnes.

2) Jeremy Lin has us feeling (insert sad emoji here)

The Nets were 4-7 after the All-Star break with Jeremy Lin back in the starting lineup heading into Sunday’s contest. Not a great number, but an improvement from the Nets’ previous months, where they struggled to notch their tenth victory. The extent of Lin’s ankle injury sustained in the first quarter is not known yet, but it’s another bump (or pothole, because NYC is the WORST with potholes) in a tough season for the Brooklyn Nets’ starting point guard.

3) Spencer Dinwiddie – the Spensation

Spencer Dinwiddie, playing against some undersized Mavericks guards (including Yogi “The One That Got Away” Ferrell), played one of his best games as a Net. Dinwiddie stepped up in the fourth quarter, after some foul trouble. He played most of the fourth with five fouls. With Lin possibly missing games, expect Dinwiddie to earn big minutes again. Can the Spensation last? He may have had a couple of weak possessions down the stretch, but an overall impressive game – 18 points (10 in the fourth quarter) and seven assists.
