Brooklyn Nets vs. Washington Wizards Takeaways and Grades
Takeaways
1) Ice Cold 24
The Nets struggled throughout the first quarter after an early lead. Coming off of a back-to-back, Brooklyn looked completely out of rhythm after an initial lead. The Nets made several mental errors, with turnovers and poor passing plaguing them during their drought. It took them until eight minutes left in the second quarter to score their first three-point shot. It was a Jeremy Lin rhythm jumper. The Nets shot 38.1 percent from the field in the first quarter and 15.4 percent from three. They also committed eight turnovers. So…no bueno.

2) Bench? Where ya at?
After outscoring the Suns’ bench 81-22 (you read that right) Thursday night (that rhymed), the Nets’ second unit was lackluster against Washington. Their initial lead vanished after the starters checked out of the game and grew from manageable to insurmountable. (Insurmountable is the biggest word I’ve ever used). Usual bench standouts Trevor Booker, Quincy Acy and Spencer Dinwiddie combined for ONE point on 0-of-6 shooting.
While Justin Hamilton and K.J. McDaniels played well in the fourth quarter, the performance of the entire second unit was severely lacking, especially on the defensive end. They scored well, but could not get the necessary stops to make the Wizards sweat.

3) Archie Goodwin – 10 more days
Friday was the last day of Archie Goodwin’s first 10-day contract. Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders reported that the Nets would bring Goodwin back for another 10 days. Goodwin had a decent game on Friday, with his most memorable shot being a strong drive to the rim. He scored 10 points, but looked decisive. Coach Kenny Atkinson commented on how Goodwin could be a piece for the Nets’ future. We’ll see how Goodwin fares in his next 10 days. He’s performed well so far.
