Five Power Forwards Brooklyn Nets Could Target in 2017 NBA Draft
Harry Giles, Duke
Coming into the season, freshman Harry Giles was thought of as a top 10 draft pick by many. Now, after a disappointing season, one in which he averaged just 3.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists, Giles is looking to right his wrongs. This poor season from Giles resulted in a drop in his draft stock.

The drop in his draft stock has caused confusion regarding where he will be selected. Many still project him to be selected in the lottery, while others have dropped him all the way into the bottom of the first round. With much up in the air on Giles and just where he’ll be selected, some teams may pass on him, which will give the Nets a chance to grab him. This is something that should excite the Nets.
Giles is 6-foot-10 and weighs 227 pounds, and also has an impressive 7-foot-3 wingspan. However, it’s important to note Giles missed his entire senior season in high school after tearing his ACL for the second time in November 2015. He comes with risks, but there’s a reason he is the number three prospect in a loaded ACC conference.

Despite his lack of production, he only played 11.5 minutes per game and was involved in a drama-filled season for the Duke Blue Devils. Incidents like Mike Krzyzewski not allowing the team to wear Duke apparel because they weren’t representing Duke basketball, Coach K being absent for a stretch of games and injuries hurt Duke this season, despite the team coming out of the ACC Tournament as the ACC Champions.
Through it all, it seems many are still high on Giles and felt the mess Duke got themselves into hurt Giles’ and a few other players’ stock. So if Giles does in fact slip to the Nets, it’d be in the Nets’ interest to use one of their two late draft picks to take a shot on the versatile big man.
