Key Plays

A majority of this contest was a back-and-forth affair between the two teams, though each team did have some spurts to start pulling away. With the Nets going scoreless for nearly two minutes in the first quarter, the Sixers took a 31-24 lead after 12 minutes of action.

Philadelphia scored the first two baskets in the second quarter to extend their lead to double figures. After inserting Sean Kilpatrick into the game, the Nets quickly bounced  back to begin the second. Kilpatrick scored seven points in his first two minutes of action, cutting the Sixers’ lead to just five. The Nets would fall behind once again, but thanks to their astounding rate of free throws, always stayed within striking distance. Brooklyn trailed by just one point, 58-57, at halftime.

For the most part, the second half was an uphill battle for both teams, with neither team able to keep a large advantage for long. With three minutes remaining in the third, led by Brook Lopez, the Nets went on an 8-0 run to go on top 78-72. A combination of Nik Stauskas, Justin Anderson and Dario Saric helped the Sixers close the gap, along with the Sixers’ remarkable four blocks in the final two minutes and 11 seconds of the quarter. It was a one-point game yet again at the end of the third, with Philadelphia on top.

The Nets found themselves in another tight game in crunchtime, down 102-101 with 1:25 remaining. Brooklyn failed to convert on another field goal in this timeframe, as Lopez missed a three-pointer that would have knotted the game at 104 with 32 seconds to go. This ultimately costed them the game, and they fell short, 106-101.
