Ranking Every Joe Johnson Game-Winner For Brooklyn Nets
2. Feb. 8, 2016: Nets vs. Nuggets (105-104)
While this game may not have meant much in terms on wins and losses, it was still essential. The franchise was in a very dark place in the months leading up to this faithful night. The writing was essentially on the wall that “Joe Cool” was set to become one of the most prized players on the buyout market in the coming weeks. Even though Johnson claimed he would’ve liked to remain a Net, it was clear that the best situation for him was in a winning culture.
In this early February matchup between two non-playoff teams, Johnson gave one final tip of the hat to Nets fans. It was his final gift to the Brooklyn Nets family. As opposed to his trademark poker face, the 6-foot-7 wing was all smiles after banking home a three to give the Nets a 105-104 victory over the Nuggets.
Johnson’s buzzer beater in that contest didn’t have much impact on the Nets’ fate that season. Brooklyn was never a contender for the postseason throughout the course of that year. The team would go on to finish 21-61, in turn handing the Boston Celtics the third-best odds at obtaining the number one pick in that year’s draft.
