2017 NBA Free Agency: Top Restricted Free Agent Targets For Brooklyn Nets
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
The Detroit Pistons have already stated they will match any offer Kentavious Caldwell-Pope receives. Considering the loss of Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe to offer matches last summer, this scenario should rightfully strike fear into our hearts. However, like last year, Caldwell-Pope is worth the risk.
RELATED STORY: Nets Should Still Pursue Caldwell-Pope
Similar to the Chicago Bulls, the Detroit Pistons are riddled with drama and uncertainty. Although they have a talented roster, the Pistons took a huge step back this year and missed the playoffs after being pinged as a dark horse. In his fourth year, Caldwell-Pope has made a bigger jump than his stats indicate. Although his production appears stagnant since his second year, his value surpasses his production.
At 6-foot-6, the 24-year-old brings skills that would add value to Atkinson’s system. Although he shoots just 35 percent from three-point range, Caldwell-Pope is a player that teams must always account for. A willing defender and fearless shooter, Caldwell-Pope could play either the two or three next to Caris LeVert as Hollis-Jefferson slides over to the power forward slot. This addition would give the Nets an up-tempo style that would keep the Nets engaging through the season.
