As of now, the Brooklyn Nets own three picks in the 2017 NBA Draft: 22, 27, 57. With $3.425 million in cash considerations, the Nets have more than enough flexibility to move their way around the draft board. Last year, they packaged a late second-round pick plus cash to trade up and select Isaiah Whitehead. How will Brooklyn approach the second round this year?

On Thursday, June 22nd, the Brooklyn Nets will have an opportunity to further lay the foundation of this franchise for years to come. The 2017 NBA Draft will be held inside the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York.

With the 2017 NBA Draft Combine underway, executives around the league continue their tireless process of finding a player they want to select on draft night. While the majority of teams will primarily search for first-round talent, Sean Marks and the Brooklyn Nets realize they cannot overlook the importance of their second-round pick (#57). The Nets do not have rights to their own second-round pick until 2021.

Currently, Brooklyn has $3.425 million in cash considerations they can use to purchase a second-round pick, if they choose. Last year, the Nets dealt the #55 pick and $3 million in “cash considerations” to Utah for the #42 pick, where they selected Isaiah Whitehead. It’s likely the Nets will have the same opportunity again this year, but will they pull the trigger?

At #57, the Nets will have their work cut out for them to find a “hidden gem.” However, as Marks has alluded to in the past, they will enjoy the flexibility of having multiple picks throughout the night, calling it “another tool in our tool box.”

More from Nothin' But Nets

“It’s nice to have a first-round pick. It’s better to have two and we’ll just see what happens. I think we can be a little more flexible now,” Marks said. “We’ll wait and see. If the players are there that we like, that’s great and that’s exciting for us. Again, I think we will be fluid and strategic in how we use those two picks and we’ll figure it out the best we can.”

With countless possibilities of what might occur on draft night, the Nets will approach the night with an open mind. So, who might we see in a Nets uniform next year?
