Toughness

If there’s one type of player Oklahoma State is known for producing, it’s tough-nosed guards. Tony Allen, Marcus Smart and former Net Markel Brown are all known for their aggressiveness and fearlessness.  Like Allen and Brown, Evans is undersized for his position. What he lacks in size, he appears to make up for in courageously throwing his body around in the lane to get an easy deuce, or to stay in front of his assignment on defense.  His mediocre athleticism and short wingspan may present issues at the next level. There is something to be said, though, for the value of playing every possession with heart. Look no further than Ish Smith. Smith has become one of the most efficient guards in the league defensively. He dons a frame that is comparable to Evans’ and is now a borderline starting point guard in the NBA.

The Kimball High School alum may be known in the league for his variety of scoring methods which is something that is essential for an undersized guard to have. He is the definition of a floor general on offense; simply commanding the floor during every possession. Evans often times uses his quickness to weave in and out of defenders while having an elite ability to finish through contact. The Cowboys faced Iowa State, Texas and eventual National Champion, North Carolina this season. All three of those squads boasted NBA-bound big men. These team’s interior defenses didn’t stand a chance against Evans as he tallied 29(2x), 19, and 30 points in each of those contests respectively.

His quickness was abundantly apparent in a give-and-go play ran from the top of the key that Oklahoma State seemed to run quite frequently. This type of play has a lot of potential if he becomes a Net with Brook Lopez potentially popping out or rolling to the hoop if Evans gets in trouble after the hand off.
