Brooklyn Nets Should Consider Jawun Evans in the NBA Draft
Conclusions
Most are comparing Evans to career long reserves. NBAdraft.net projects him to be a Tyrone Lue-type player. When it comes to the draft, selecting undersized guards can often be a huge gamble. Occasionally, a team will find a gem like, Isaiah Thomas or Nate Robinson while other times, a team will be stuck with the likes of Johnny Flynn.

While there are some similarities in Thomas’ and Evans’ per 40 minute college stats, a more realistic best case scenario for the former the Cowboy would be Jameer Nelson. Ideally, whichever team lands Evans should expect a player comparable to Ish Smith.
Sean Marks should highly consider using the 27th pick on Evans. While most mocks have the Nets taking bigs, it is not wise to select too many players who play the same position in one draft (see David Kahn circa 2009). He may provide some stability if the Nets plan to use the 22nd pick on a high-risk player such as Harry Giles. Evans could be a very dynamic player for the Nets offensively. He could also provide some good old fashioned “Brooklyn Grit” on the other side of the court.
