Wesley Matthews
Mark Cuban is always looking for a way to compete for Dirk Nowitzki’s sake. This year is gonna be a hunt for a point guard despite Yogi Ferrell’s explosion, but first they need to find cap room. With Seth Curry taking over the 2 and Harrison Barnes being anchored at the 3, that leaves Wesley Matthews the odd man out.
Next: Brooklyn Nets: Trevor Booker is happy with Nets
Matthews hasn’t been the same since his Achilles tear rupture in 2015, and his 17+ million is steep price on a playoff caliber team like the Mavericks. Still, he can still hit 3 pointers and he still has a pretty good defense. “3 and D” wing is the Nets biggest hole, and a player like Matthews would fits the term like a glove.
Dallas would have to give up Dorian Finney-Smith and a 2018 pick at least for this to go through. That’s a high price to pay for an elite point guard. Most people wouldn’t even think about it, but Mark Cuban isn’t most people.
