There is currently an open slot on the Nets with the departure of scrappy vet Randy Foye. With Foye’s veteran leadership leaving town, a need for a solid veteran presence is paramount.   Livingston would be a tremendous addition and potentially add more than Foye ever did.

The Nets could utilize the 32 year old Livingston in a multitude of ways. Atkinson could play Livingston on-or-off the ball, with an equal level of comfort. Although Livingston predominantly plays off the ball , he has shown the ability to bring the rock up the court and handle it smoothly.

On the defensive end, Livingston affords the  same level of flexibility with his lanky frame and ability to cover a lot of ground.

The Nets have a healthy projected cap space of nearly $27 million next season. They have more than enough to make a bid at Livingston as he enters unrestricted free agency. He is currently making close to $6 million this season and will seek at least that or more next year.

From the Warriors perspective, it seems realistic to speculate that they might decide to  part ways with Livingston and not re-sign him.. They have youngsters who play the same position like 6’7 Patrick McCaw and Ian Clark whose stock has certainly been on the rise. It’s also fair to mention that McCaw will only be making $1.3 million next season and Clark will be up for a new contract.

Theoretically speaking, the Warriors can choose to develop their young players and part ways with an aging Livingston as their juggernaut plows on.

There will obviously be numerous teams vying for Shaun Livingston next season. His talents and experience are valuable. If the Nets really want to solidify a skillful vet like him they might want to over pay him a bit, especially considering they will have enough to flirt with in cap space to pick up another high value player as well.  The final caveat here might truly be how much Livingston believes in what K-Marks (Atkinson/Marks) vision is for the Brooklyn Nets.
