1. Dennis Rodman

Drafted:  June 17, 1986 by the Detroit Pistons

To remember Dennis Rodman only by his outrageous antics off the court as opposed to what he accomplished on the hardwood would be flat out wrong.

Rodman was quite simply the best rebounder in NBA history. No one crashed the boards better than Rodman. Look at rebounding totals: 18.7 rebounds-per-game in 1991-92, 18.3 rpg in 1992-93, and 17.3 in 1993-94. Astonishing!

Next: Why now is the time to become a Nets fan

Rodman won five NBA Championships, two with the Pistons and later providing the muscle for two Chicago Bulls title runs. He led the NBA in total rebounds four times, won two defensive player of the year awards, and was inducted to the NBA Hall of Fame in 2011.

It would be a dream to see how Rodman, a shut down defensive player in his day, would have matched up against LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Just a hunch, but Rodman’s defensive mastery would have given the gold standards of today’s league fits.
