Grading each Brooklyn Nets offseason move
By Josh Rudy
The highly anticipated Brooklyn Nets offseason seems to be winding down. While Sean Marks may have one or two more moves up his sleeve, we’ll take a look at how the Nets have fared this offseason.
After finishing 20-62 in the previous season, many expected the Nets to make a splash in the offseason. They had more cap space than most teams in the league (and still do), and were looking to add pieces to jumpstart the rebuild. Whether it be through the NBA Draft, free agency or trades, Brooklyn was on the clock.
For Nets fans, the offseason seems to be one of the most exciting times of the year. During the Billy King era, that wasn’t the case. While the Nets were winning more games and competing in the playoffs, we all knew what the future held. A whole lot of nothing.
However, since Sean Marks has taken over the front office, he’s given Nets fans reason to believe. Even though Brooklyn finished with the worst record in the NBA last year, there was obvious improvement throughout the season, especially after the All-Star break. The culture being instilled into the organization is contagious, everyone wants to win.
Last offseason, Marks nabbed players such as Luis Scola, Trevor Booker and Randy Foye to help lead the rebuild from a cultural perspective. According to Marks, it was a worthwhile investment, regardless of the production garnered from those players.
The Nets still have a long way to go, and this offseason was crucial for dictating how the 2017-18 campaign will play out.
Here are our grades for each move made by Brooklyn in the 2017 NBA offseason.
