8. Beating the Playoff Bound Memphis Grizzlies

By March 6, the Nets season was already a wash. Lin’s injuries derailed any hopes the team had of being a playoff contender. This didn’t stop them from going into “The Grindhouse”  and handing the Memphis Grizzlies an embarrassing loss.

Lin was back at full health and the Nets gained an overall team win. They had six players in double digits. Reserve Sean Kilpatrick led the way with 23 points.

It was a big win for the Nets, who had been playing competitive basketball during the second half of the season. The Grizzlies were a playoff bound team out of the tough Western Conference. Beating them showed just how far the Nets had come.

Most teams in the Nets’ situation would have just been steam rolled by the better team. But not Brooklyn. The youth-rich team showed its resiliency and fought hard against a veteran Grizzlies team. The result was a resounding win and a feather in the cap of the younger players who had played bigger roles than expected.

It was wins like this that kept fans interested and hopeful for the years to come. The team wasn’t good, and probably won’t be for the next few years, but they are fighters. They have a good head coach and a good front office. The Nets will try to replicate wins like this until they become commonplace in Brooklyn.
