Ranking the Brooklyn Nets’ offseason moves
Retaining Sean Kilatrick, Joe Harris, Quincy Acy and Spencer Dinwiddie
Culture is a part of the identity of the Brooklyn Nets. Since Marks and Atkinson came aboard, the Nets have aimed to create a player-friendly environment.
Brooklyn would have lost all of its credibility had it replaced more than half of its roster. Despite the flurry of moves that happened this offseason, it was a smart move to bring back Sean Kilpatrick, Joe Harris, Quincy Acy and Spencer Dinwiddie.
All of these players have ways of contributing on the court. Acy is a floor-spacing big. Joe Harris is their second unit sniper. Dinwiddie could end up being the team’s primary backup point guard. Kilpatrick just simply gets buckets.
It goes beyond what they can do on the court though. Retaining all of these players shows a message to players across the league.
When Marks and Atkinson tell you that you have a role on the team, they actually stay loyal to you.
Kilpatrick and Harris were given guaranteed deals and given roles on the team despite having limited success beforehand. Acy and Dinwiddie were 10-day contract signings that earned a permanent role on the team.
It was important for the culture to retain these guys. Good on Marks and on these four for working out agreements to keep the progress moving.
