The Atlanta Hawks could be a good trading partner for Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks are both teams with long odds of making the playoffs. Despite that, the two teams would be good trading partners. Several Hawks would look great in Brooklyn’s Black and White threads.

It seems like the Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets are two teams heading in similar directions. The Hawks are among the league’s worst teams with a 4-16 record. Brooklyn also has a poor record at 7-13.

The Nets want to win, though. Atlanta is likely to sell off its productive veterans by the trade deadline to acquire future pieces.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn has no reason to lose. If the team could make a fix to improve its playoff chances, especially this early in the season, it could make a move.

More from Nothin' But Nets

Obviously, the Nets won’t go crazy and sell off its young pieces for high priced guys. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson isn’t likely to be moved after Kenny Atkinson has developed him into an all around threat.

The Nets could sell off their lesser pieces and expiring deals themselves, though. But what could the Hawks want?

That’s an easy answer. Young guys on cheap deals. The Hawks have made it clear through letting Paul Milsap and Tim Hardaway go that the team is rebuilding. Luckily the Nets have compelling cheap talent.

Sean Kilpatrick is on a veteran’s minimum deal and has proven he could play. For whatever reason, he has been marginalized this season. He is a perfect trade candidate.

Joe Harris is also on a cheap deal. Seeing that Allen Crabbe is a pricier but better version of what Harris is, the Virginia product may also be expendable.

The Nets could combine their expiring deals with Trevor Booker’s weighty contract. That could fetch back several Hawks that the Nets could be interested in.

Dewayne Dedmon and Ersan Ilyasova are both big men that would immediately improve the Nets’ current big man rotation. Both guys make just $6 million per year as well. One, if not both of those players could be part of a package that includes Trevor Booker as well as one or both of the aforementioned Nets guards on minimum deals.

If the Nets could avoid giving up a pick and could acquire one or both of these guys, its a deal they must consider. Brooklyn would likely have to part with a second rounder, though, which may just be worth the cost of either.

Hopefully these two teams link up as trade partners.
