Sports Illustrated just started a new series on Jeremy Lin. Lin was injured in the first game of the regular season and is out for the season. While the series covers Lin’s physical road to recovery, it is also about his mental and emotional preparations.

Jeremy Lin is out for the season. While he had a ton of potential playing in Kenny Atkinson’s offense, fans never got to see him blossom into a threat. Injury took Lin from them.

While we all saw Lin’s injury, we did not get to see what happened behind the scenes. That is what Sports Illustrated provides with its latest series. Fans will get the opportunity to go indepth on the team’s leader.

If you want to watch the seven minute episode, just click here. But from here on out, there are spoilers. So, be warned.

The episode starts off with the season opener. More specifically, it started off with Lin driving to the basket. He shot a layup and turned. According to Lin, it felt as if he bumped knees with someone mid-air. When he saw the replay, he saw no one there. He knew it would impact the rest of his career.

We then get to meet Lin’s 93-year old grandmother. Lin credits overcoming self-doubt to his family. We even get to meet his nephew, Jaden who goes by Chunkz. Lin’s sister-in-law Patricia gives us some insight into Lin’s passion for reconnecting with his heritage, while the trio are at his grandmother’s dinner table.

Lin also comments on the outpouring of fan support. He credits them for their uplifting and motivational messages, while also being in awe of bringing thousands of people together.

He then goes onto to talk about the players that have reached out. Most surprisingly of all the players to reach out to Lin was Kenyon Martin. The two were embroiled in a beef due to Lin’s dreadlocks. However, Martin offered advice on how to handle a knee injury.

But, Lin reflects on what his process will be like. It will be arduous just to play basketball again, let alone win a title. But he does not just want to win a championship. He wants to go beyond that.
