The Brooklyn Nets finished the season on a high note. However, with only 28 wins, they did not qualify for the playoffs. The Nets will look towards the NBA draft, and will have three picks to work with.

The NBA draft takes place on June 21st. The Brooklyn Nets have one first-round pick at 29, and two second-round picks at 40 and 45. The Nets own pick, of course, will be going to the Cavaliers as the last reminder of the trade with the Boston Celtics.

Picks 29 and 40 come from the Toronto Raptors, in the trade that also got the Nets DeMarre Carroll. General manager Sean Marks gave up Justin Hamilton in the trade, and he was immediately waved by the Raptors. The 40th pick comes via the Orlando Magic.

The 45th pick comes from the Tyler Zeller trade to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Nets weren’t guaranteed to get the pick this year, as it had some protections. If the pick fell between 31-47, it would be sent to Brooklyn. Otherwise the Nets would have  to wait until 2019 for the same scenario to occur.

At the time the deal was made, the pick was 52nd, as the Bucks were rolling. Milwaukee struggled down the stretch of the season, and while they still clinched a playoff spot, the second round pick became Brooklyn’s.

Sean Marks will have three draft picks to work with, after initially having zero coming into this season. We’ve seen what he can do with late picks, as he’s shown with both Caris Levert, and Jarrett Allen.

There are a few interesting players at the back end of the first round and early second round that the Nets will target. We will preview many of those in the coming weeks.

For now, Brooklyn will watch the playoffs at home. The team, staff, and front office will contemplate what it will take to take part in the post season next year.
