5. Jarrett Allen

Arguably one of the top steals of the 2017 NBA Draft, Jarrett Allen had himself a great rookie season.

In the beginning of the season, Allen did not see a lot of playing time but that did not last long. The rookie big man from Texas began to see plenty of minutes due to Timofey Mozgov’s struggles. Allen would eventually win the starting center position over Mozgov. Since then, his play has developed extremely well and surpassed expectations.

Allen was very impressive on both ends of the court for Brooklyn especially the defensive end of the floor.

On the defensive end of the floor, he is is a major threat for opposing teams. The big man defends the paint very well and always contests any dunks or lay-ups that come his way.

Allen led all rookies in total blocks this past season with 88.

On the offensive end of the floor, Allen’s play was brilliant for a rookie center. He would focus his offensive game around low post scoring and setting screen plays. This offensive role fit the big man perfectly and earn him more minutes as the season progressed.

The Brooklyn Nets will make Allen a huge piece of their rebuilding plan and should keep him around for years to come.
