Isaiah Whitehead

The problem with the Nets having such good depth at the guard position is that there just isn’t much room for other guys.

One guy, in particular, is Isaiah Whitehead. The 6-foot-4 guard out of Seton Hall saw much more playing time his rookie year due to the injuries to Jeremy Lin.

However, with the arrival of D’Angelo Russell and the breakout play of Spencer Dinwiddie, Whitehead spent most of the season in the G-League. In the 16 games he played with the Nets last season he scored 6.3 points per game and shot 46 percent from the field.

Whitehead may see his role stay the same next season barring him being traded. The Nets might keep Whitehead in the G-League as an emergency backup in case guards such as Lin or Russell get hurt and they need some depth.

However, it seems like the G-League is too easy for Whitehead as he thrived on the Long Island Nets. He averaged just over 22 points per game and had a game in which he dropped 52 points on the Greensboro Swarm.

Nik Stauskas

Nik Stauskas came to the Nets via trade with the 76ers in which the Nets also received Jahlil Okafor and a second-round pick. Stauskas was wasting away on the bench in Philadelphia as he was an afterthought in their “process.”

He only played in six games for Philadelphia. With the Nets, he played in 35 games, averaging 5.1 points and shooting 40 percent from behind the arc.

In the first game he played with the Nets, he dropped 22 points against Toronto. He also scored 21 points and made seven 3-pointers against the New Orleans Pelicans. Other than that his minutes were usually relegated to garbage time in blowouts.

Nik may not have a long future with the Nets . Although he is a scorer with the ability to shoot the 3, the Nets already have guys such as Allen Crabbe and Joe Harris that can do that.

Stauskas could more than likely be used in trade packages for the Nets to either acquire draft picks or take on another team’s bad contracts.

Milton Doyle

Milton Doyle was a player that spent most of the 2017-18 season in the G-League. For the Long Island Nets, he averaged 20,5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

Doyle only played in 10 games for the Nets last season. He does have good size for the shooting guard position at 6-foot-4 with a lanky frame.

Milton will more than likely be back in the G-League at the start of next season. Barring any injury to the other guards, it will be a surprise if he is called up for any significant role with the team.
