Brooklyn Nets rumors season kicked off Friday with a report that the Nets have agreed to terms with North Carolina wing Theo Pinson on a two-way contract.

The NBA Draft is in the books and the offseason Brooklyn Nets rumors already started to fly Friday with a report from Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress and ESPN that North Carolina wing Theo Pinson has agreed to a two-way deal with the club.

Pinson went undrafted Thursday after averaging 10.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 29.7 minutes per game for the Tar Heels last season, starting all 37 games for the defending national champions who were upset in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by Texas A&M.

Pinson confirmed the report Friday morning.

The deal can’t become official until July 6, when the moratorium on transactions expires after the new league year begins on July 1.

Pinson was a part-time starter for North Carolina’s title team in 2016-17, making 13 starts in 21 games he played after missing the first two months of the season with a broken bone in his foot.

Pinson has the measurables for success at 6-foot-6 with a 6-foot-11 wingspan, but his outside shot never developed in his time at Chapel Hill.

Pinson was a career 25.7 percent 3-point shooter at North Carolina, including hitting just 22.6 percent (12-for-53) as a senior on his way to an overall slash line of .473/.226/.818.

Givony had Pinson at No. 63 in his pre-draft rankings (subscription required), while he was ranked No. 83 at NBADraft.net.

His plusses are that he can create his own shot fairly well, can run the point or play the 2 or 3 spots, rebounds well for his size and is a solid defender.

The knocks on Pinson heading into the draft were his shot selection, his reluctance to shoot when open and the fact he is not a threat at all from the perimeter.

Here is some of what he did at the NBA Combine in May along with his highlights from college:

Pinson’s shot, as you can see from the combine workout, is not particularly smooth, with some hitches and an odd, off-to-the-side release point. That’s something that is fixable with proper coaching.

His athleticism is not up for debate, he can defend three positions (a versatility that is always a plus in the modern NBA) and if he can get his tendency to play a little out of control on offense regulated, Pinson is a guy who could contribute at the NBA level.
