3. The long goodbye

OK, so it won’t be that long … just long enough for the moratorium to be lifted on Friday and Dwight Howard and the Brooklyn Nets will officially split.

Still, it’s hard not to be a little wistful at a player who brought so much (cough *** future cap space *** cough) to the Nets franchise and will certainly go down in history as

one of the team’s greatest contributors

a guy who was briefly on the roster.

At this point, I think I have to turn it over to someone more well-equipped to capture the raw emotion of the moment.

For one fateful moment in history, Dwight Howard and the Brooklyn Nets came together. Then, in the blink of an eye, it was gone. No, literally, it was the length of time it takes to blink.

But remember this moment in time when in 2019, the Nets perhaps grant the wishes of free agents Kyrie Irving and Jimmy Butler and bring them together to join forces in Brooklyn to form the next great Nets dynasty (OK, the first great Nets dynasty, but still …)

Remember that such a thing could never have been possible without

the sacrifices made by

the millions of dollars to get the hell out of town paid to Dwight Howard.

I mean, nothing says star power in a player more than becoming a franchise legend simply by never showing up.
