Brooklyn Nets: 3 takeaways from 90-76 loss to OKC Thunder

2. Day to forget for Semaj Christon, Jordan McLaughlin
A team’s offensive tone is set by its point guard and looking at the play of Semaj Christon and Jordan McLaughlin on Saturday made it very clear why Brooklyn struggled as much as it did.
Christon, who played a full season with the Thunder in 2016-17, appeared to be on a two-pronged mission — prove Oklahoma City wrong for letting him go and make an NBA roster based on his flashy play.

The problem was that Christon was mostly just completely out of control, turning the ball over three times, missing all 10 of his shot attempts in 19 minutes and logging just two assists.
He looked like he was pressing most of the game, going for fancy passes when a simple, fundamental look would have done the job, and his shot selection was almost laughably bad.
McLaughlin wasn’t a lot better. He too turned the rock over three times, but did manage to finish with seven points and six assists in 25 minutes, though he was only 3-for-10 shooting, including 1-for-6 from deep.
Shawn Dawson, who had 20 points in the opener against Orlando, didn’t have the same magic working Saturday. He missed his only two attempts in 17 minutes, finished with three points from the foul line and was a minus-13.
James Webb played 20 minutes and finished with 12 points and six boards, going 5-for-12 overall and 2-for-8 from the arc. It wasn’t a bad performance, but he had trouble hitting open looks from outside.
Even for Summer League, 15 assists and 15 turnovers isn’t going to get it done.
