Why Brooklyn Nets are a great destination for Kawhi Leonard

The Brooklyn Nets should be considered a great destination for Leonard. Brooklyn will have $50 million to $70 million in cap space in 2019, which translates to two max contracts. With that much financial flexibility for 2019, Brooklyn can build a super team.

This gives Leonard not only a max contract for himself, but enough left over to bring another big-name free agent to Brooklyn. Not only does Brooklyn have money on its side, but it has many San Antonio Spurs connections in their organization.

You might be thinking Brooklyn does not have a chance at Leonard and he will end up in a Los Angeles  Lakers uniform in 2019. Yes, that is very likely and the favorite destination at this point.

But on Wednesday, NBA Insider Bruce Arthur spoke on the Back to Back podcast about how Brooklyn can shock the NBA and bring not only Kawhi but another big market player in 2019.

Also how Kawhi Leonard has been making calls planning out his next move and, yes, the Brooklyn Nets are in that conversation.

From Arthur’s discussion on the podcast:

"One thing I was told last night is that Kawhi Leonard had already been planning out his free agency next year. He had already been in contact with other star players in the league saying “Hey, where might you want to play with me? What are we looking at?” And it wasn’t just LA he was talking about. Brooklyn was maybe somewhere that was going to have a ton of cap space, that might have been a possibility. Kawhi has already been thinking ahead to pairing up and trying to play at the highest level."

Let’s break down why Kawhi should commit to the Brooklyn Nets.
