The Brooklyn Nets connections for Kawhi

The Brooklyn Nets have a good amount of key connections for Leonard. Nets general manager Sean Marks has great ties with Dennis Robertson; Kawhi Leonard’s uncle and adviser. Robertson currently lives in South Orange, N.J., which is fairly close to Brooklyn.

The Nets recently brought in Tiago Splitter as a pro scout. Splitter was a teammate of Leonard’s for four seasons with the Spurs. They also won a championship together in 2014 and played with great chemistry. .

This is a bonus for Leonard, especially after battling a series of time consuming injuries — most notably the quad injury that sidelined him for all but nine games last season.

Jacque Vaughn, who was the Nets Summer League coach this summer and primarily a big man coach/scout for Brooklyn, was a pro scout for San Antonio in 2015.

Now these two connections are huge for Kawhi Leonard considering Brooklyn. Marks, who is the Nets general manager, was the Spurs assistant coach on their 2014 championship team. That was the last time the Spurs won it all and the best season for Leonard.

During that championship run, Leonard was the NBA Finals MVP.

Trajan Langdon, who is Brooklyn’s second in command behind Marks, was a member of the San Antonio Spurs front office during their championship season.

With all this being said, it is in Kawhi’s best interest to come to Brooklyn following the 2018-19 season. Leonard is under contract for next season and is expected to play for the Raptors.

Not only would Brooklyn give Kawhi the best chance to play at his highest level, but make him the main guy on an Eastern Conference super team.
