Brooklyn Nets: 10 best Nets from 4th NBA decade (2006-16)
By Phil Watson
Vince Carter became a superstar during his early years with the Toronto Raptors, dazzling the NBA and the world with his aerial act. But by early in the 2004-05 season, Carter grew disenchanted in Toronto and basically forced his way out of town.
The New Jersey Nets wound up acquiring the All-Star, sending a package of three players and two first-round picks to the Raptors to get Carter in December 2004.

During the 2006-16 period, Carter was named to the last of his eight All-Star appearances in 2007, a season in which he was third in the NBA in minutes and eighth in scoring.
That season was Carter’s best full season as a Net, averaging 25.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.0 steals in 38.1 minutes per game on .454/.357/.802 shooting.
In the three seasons Carter spent with New Jersey during the 2006-16 period, he put up 22.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 37.9 minutes a night while shooting .449/.368/.811.
In the 2007 NBA Playoffs, he averaged 22.3 points, 6.8 boards and 5.3 dimes in 40.6 minutes per game on a slash line of .396/.389/.693.
In June 2009, the Nets traded Carter with Ryan Anderson to the Orlando Magic for Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston and Tony Battie.
As it turns out, that was far from the end of his journey. Carter has made stops since with the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings and in July 2018 signed on with the Atlanta Hawks for his 21st NBA campaign.
Carter enters the 2018-19 season just 132 points away from becoming the 22nd player in NBA history with 25,000 career points. He trails Reggie Miller by 411 points for the 20th spot on the all-time list.
