Expectations in 2018-2019

As mentioned earlier, Allen Crabbe must expand his offensive game. He needs to better manage how many 3-point attempts he takes next season. Taking an average of 7.1 3-point attempts per game cannot happen for a team that has pressure to win more games next season.

The pace-and-space offense leans heavily on the 3-pointer, but a player can’t just camp out behind the line and launch 7.1 attempts from deep without bogging the offense down.

More from Nothin' But Nets

Crabbe also needs to improve his ball movement. The shooting guard did not pass the ball much last season. Instead he would take loads of catch-and-shoot 3s.

If Crabbe can make that extra pass when pressured, either to a man in the corner or an inside pass, it gives Brooklyn more options.

On the defensive end, Crabbe needs some minor tweaks. Overall, Crabbe is a good outside defender who puts pressure on his man. One tweak for Crabbe on the defensive end is reading the opposing offense.

Crabbe had a habit only focus on his man rather than remaining aware of what was happening on the rest of the floor. If Crabbe can add help defense to his game, it helps the overall team defensive scheme. Crabbe has good size and length to become a steal threat.

Overall, Crabbe’s scoring needs to go up slightly. He averaged 13.2 points in 29.3 minutes of play each game. If Crabbe can up his scoring to at least 16 points a game, it will bring more scoring depth to Brooklyn’s offense.

Regarding the defensive end of the floor, if Crabbe becomes more involved in whats going on around him, he can make a big impact on the Nets backcourt defense.

It will be interesting to see if the highest-paid Net can make this kind of jump next season. Crabbe is one of the few Nets who have pressure on them to have a break-out season.
